hi, i have a mac mini, but recently the disk drive wont work, it started just not burning cd's or dvd's, but now it wont even read them, i recently put a cd in and it said it was blank, whilst on any other computer its shows the disks as full.

Below are my macs specs, incase it helps at all:-

 

Processor Name: Intel Core Duo

Processor Speed: 1.66 GHz

Number Of Processors: 1

Total Number Of Cores: 2

L2 Cache (per processor): 2 MB

Memory: 512 MB

Bus Speed: 667 MHz

Boot ROM Version: MM11.0055.B08

SMC Version: 1.3f4

 

Any help would be great as i am a student and wud prefer not av to buy a new mac.

I do not know much about Macs but from the evidence you have given, my opinion would be that the drive is dead and will need to be replaced.

 

If it was a simple firmware/Driver issue it wouldn't have gone slowly.

 

But wait until someone with Mac knowledge or otherwise can comfirm this before acting upon it :)

 

I also understand your situation as a student, we're not made of money during this time in our lives :D
