The dfrag programme ( default Windows XP version)regularly freezes at about 35% thru the process so a full defrag is not being achieved.

I've recently added a lot of new files so I need to get them sorted ,

Also, and this has happened once, a blue Windows error message appears ( in white text) informing me that the programme has been closed down to prevent damage !

Hello jlay.

If wolfeys idea doesn't work,

- try disk clean first

- then defrag

- also please make sure every application is closed

Let us know how it goes.

DEfrag freezing

Thanks all ,

All the new files ( 147 Mb )were on a reliable 'game'dvd so I don't think it would contain any viruses would it ? or am I missing something.

I've done the disc clean-up but so far cannot enter safe mode ( f8 or f5 ) to defrag from there ? is there another way into safe mode ?

Also , there is 20% of free space , this is enough for a defrag isn't it ?
