trev74 Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 (edited) First i would like to say hi and this is the first time i have needed any help on any forum but i am tottaly stuck. I bought a new motherboard, cpu, memory a few weeks ago and built it up i tried to install vista 64bit and it took ages to load to the extracting files bit and then froze, the same happened with vista 32 bit. I then tried to put on xp 32bit and it loaded all the way up until just before the desktop came on then froze. xp would however start in safe mode. i removed all hardware from the system and the same, however when i remove the dvd drive windows xp wil start normally, tried a few different drives and the same still happens, I ran hirens diognostic cd and found no problems whatsoever and now the shop has it and they cannot figure it out either, they have repaced every component with no luck. Can anyone help please. motherboard: asrock k10n78 cpu: amd phenon 9650 x4 quad processor 4gig kingston memory 500w psu dvd/rw d/l :confused: Edited February 7, 2009 by BeeCeeBee Quote
RandyL Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Is this a good shop? If so then there is likely not much we can do. Why did you change all these components anyway? Did you have a problem? Is this a store bought computer? If so what was the original OS? You have tried to load Vista 64 bit, Vista 32 bit and XP 32 bit. Which versions of those three? Home basic, premium, Ultimate, Pro etc? Where did you get these versions and have they been installed on any other computers? Quote We are all members helping other members. Tootech Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I'd start by checking the memory spec, and the memory requirements of the board. Check the memory voltage required , and the standard voltage supplied by the board. Sometimes a swap to another brand will sort out a vague problem like this. Is the DVD drive IDE or SATA? If its SATA, try running and IDE drive whilst doing the install. Let us know how you get on. Quote

The computer repair shop also tried their copys. all my os cd/dvd's work and install fine on my other systems hope this helps somehow Quote

The m/b was replaced to another machine and worked as with the cpu, memory, drives, hdd, cables, psu, but all placed together somthing must conflict and the computer shop will not repace under warrenty untill the find a faulty part Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Are you saying the shop re-inserted all the hardware in basically a new empty tower Trev? Quote

Guest Wolfeymole Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Let's get down to brass tacks. Did the new tower come with a psu? Did all the hardware work in the old tower? Did you buy all this new gear from this shop and they fitted it? Sorry to go over old ground but can you tell us EXACTLY what happened right from the moment you decided to change the system please. Okay i had a computer system amd 3500+ and wanted to upgrade, Stripped out m/b cpu and memory and bought the new m/b mem and cpu then installed it into my old tower case. I fitted it as i have done to all my computers and it power up okay and everything works, untill i try to load any kind of windows. Win xp home installs until you get to just before the desktop (nearly 100% finished) then freezes and vista(any edition) loads the setup files then takes about 30 min to get to extracting files after that i get a empty vista background then it freezes. i can get xp to work without the dvd drive plugged in or in safe mode with it plugged in, (replaced with several dvd drives with same effect). My old 3500+ worked fine and the dvd drive works fine on other computers also. all suspected hardware have been tested in other machines and seem to work fine hope this helps Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Check ALL the connections inside the PC - also have a look in the BIOS and check that the PSU voltages are at what they are meant to be.
