Guest Shawn Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Strange issue I haven't ever seen before. I have a client running Server 2003 SP 1 and recently decided to update them to SP 2. Of course Winodws update has been bugging me to install SP 2 for some time, but I just recently got around to testing on one of their test servers and got the green light as all looked good. I went to the Windows update site, scanned the server and it showed SP 2, like it should. I clicked 'Download and Install' and to my dismay, the download showed as 'failed'. I figured it was because of the IE enhanced security, so I uninstalled the IE enhanced Security and tried again. Still scanned fine, but showed up as 'failed' on the download. I went and manually downloaded SP2, installed it and rebooted. All went well. I went back to the Windows update website, scanned again and it showed 20+ critical security updates since SP2. I once again clicked 'Download and install' to no avail. Every update showed up as 'failed' during the download phase. I am stumped. The update site gives me no errors, the server has >50% of its' disk space left (>20GB) and otherwise is running great. I can manually download other files just fine just not from Windows update. I have Googled until my eyes bled to no avail...It's funny because Windows Update scans fine, shows the correct updates needed just fine, yet fails on the download phase and gives no errors. Any ideas?
Guest Meinolf Weber Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Re: Windows Update scans, won't download Hello Shawn, Try thihs one, stop the automatic update service, delete the softwaredistribution folder under c:\windows start automatic update service and try again. The folder will be recreated and can be deleted without any problems. Did some time, when i have also problems with updating from MS. Guest Shawn Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Re: Windows Update scans, won't download Many thanks for your quick reply... I stopped the Auto Update Service, deleted the SoftwareDistribution folder, restarted Auto Update service and tried again with the same results... Scans fine but fails on the download with no error given.
