I would definitely say the drive is shot mate as if the lens is gone it therefore cannot read data which will then obviously start the disk spinning, if all your getting is a light then that's just an electrical connection and nothing more.

 

You can't uninstall it because it's not listed in Device Manage whatsoever.

 

If this were a desktop unit I'd say check the cables but it's not and unless someone can offer advice to the contrary that is my opinion.

Many thanks i will start looking to find a new dvd driver as so far i have not found the one i need as mine has an extra piece on the end of the draw to fit without leaving a hole.

Are you saying the original supplied drive does not exactly fit the bay?

No that fit, i need to find another the same to fit like the one i got, as the plastic tray at the front has an extra plastic bit fitted, the ones i found do not come with it so will leave a hole in the laptop.

Then I suggest you obtain one from an authorised Toshiba dealer.

I was just turning laptop on, & just saw this orange light on the side wondered what it was,

 

Just for your own sake, the orange light on the side is probably the wireless network card in a Toshiba laptop and not associated with the drive at all. The only light for a dvd/cd drive is on the drive itself.
