domain upgrade

I'm halfway through a domain upgrade, but need to take a few steps back.

Just not sure how far to go.

I'm going to upgrade a 2k domain to 2k3. A single forest, no child domains.

A single 2k dc, 2k & 2k3 member servers, exchange 2k. I ran 2k3 adprep,

promoted a 2k3 member server to a dc and transfered the fsmo roles to it.

Then I had a problem with exchange 2k. The resolution involved

re-installing exchange and running 2k adprep.

So how do I proceed from here to finish the domain upgrade? I'm thinking

re-run 2k3 adprep and then demote the 2k dc. Or should I demote the 2k3 dc

so that the domain is pure 2k and start the process all over again?
