media player problem

hi im having problems with windows media player 11, when trying to watch a movie im getting audio and no picture its telling me i need a codec please does anyone know of a legit site to down load a codec from, :) also while doing a scan im getting a message telling me i have a trojan brisva i have downloaded brisva removal tool but after scanning its saying that this virus is not found on pc, but running a full scan from norton it is still picking it up telling me to review but still cant remove please can anyone help :o thank you

What kind of file are you trying to watch? Most formats are supported by WMP there are some that require that you download a separate codec. What is the source of this one, please and what are the extensions?

I find installing the Xvid codec solves the problem and it can be downloaded legitimately
