Hello Amy

Welcome to FPCH

Can you give us more details about what make the camera is and the software involved please.

Hi, the camera is a Hitachi DZ-MV780E and the software that came with it is:

UDF Driver (DVD-RAM Driver)

DVD-MovieAlbumSE 4

DVDfunSTUDIO 2.2

The camera takes DVD-R and DVD-RAM discs.

Did you get any burning software bundled with your pc when you bought it, if so simply copy the disk using that software.

i've just looked and there is a DVD movie factory for Toshiba, is that what i use? Do i save the video to my computer first? when i did this i couldnt open the video i had saved

Movie Factory is a bit of editing software you need something to burn with. Toshiba usually includes something from Sonic or Roxio. Ring any bells? Anything listed in your program files? Edited by BeeCeeBee

What you need is a software program that actually allows you to burn a disc. If you have ever copied any files to a dvd or cd it would be the same software. Did you happen to see anything listed under Sonic in your list of programs or Roxio? You may not recognise them as burning software until you expand the list.

I have never copied anything to CD or disc, have only ever put photos onto a memory stick. I cant find anything that says sonic or roxio, have clicked on all of them.

Amy it does not appear that you have any software that will allow you to BURN a disc. There are a number of good free ones but Nero is recognised as the best.

I still think you may have something that would have come with the pc when you first got it. You do not need to create a DVD you need to copy and burn one.

After reviewing the above, I must correct myself, it seems that Windows DVD maker mentioned by Wolfeymole comes bundled with Vista Home Premium and will support direct burning from the camera to a DVD.

Although not a Vista user myself, I think Vista still comes with the Windows Movie Maker, it should be in your program list if it is there. Once opened, there should be an option to "Import" video, this option will handle just about all types of video format, once imported you can then edit the video if you wish, and then send the finished video in whatever format you want, direct to disk, if there is burning software on board, Windows Movie Maker will find and use it.

Hi amy;

Download and review the DVD Movie Factory User Manual.

It explains a lot of things about how to capture your video to a full size DVD or your hard drive. It seems you can also capture from DVD using it.

Windows Movie maker will not capture DVD format movie disks nor will Windows DVD Movie Maker as these deal with indivdual file types like Mpeg and such.

An IFO file is an Information file and is just one of the types that is on a DVD movie disk. So you need to use specialized software such as what you have or something else like Roxio or Nero.

I'm sure your software can do it or there really wouldn't be a point to your camera if you couldn't get it off the mini dvd disk onto a full size one.

And like I said I think you can also use it for copying from a regular DVD and your hard drive too.
