RandyL Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Hi Doug; Ramesh's site has Configure Windows XP to Automatically Login. Is that what you want to do? If so method one looks promising. In the run box type CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2 Select the user account. Uncheck Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer Quote We are all members helping other members. DSTM Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 Neither solution worked because it said if I have Windows XP Home I will get an error, which I do. Uninstalled Net Framework 1.1 and the Hotfix, and still have the Error. Microsoft say something about ASPNET.I don't understand. Can I get rid of ASPNET,and if so how? Thanks. The Welcome to Windows screen appears when you start Windows XP after you install the .NET Framework 1.1 Not sure where to go from here. Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
DirtyPolo Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Hey Doug, have you looked at this link? How to obtain Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 This is under the "Resolution" heading of that link you gave in the previous post. Have you tried installing that? BeeCeeBee Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Doug it seems you may have neglected to re download .NET Framework itself before the patch or upgrade. Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain
DSTM Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 This is what I doWnloaded, and refuses to install. Download details: .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 I need to know what steps in what sequence I should do. What exactly, I should uninstall ,and what I should install, from where. Links if possible. Sorry,I am lost with this. Many Thanks. Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
RandyL Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Doug follow the instructions given to reinstall net framework and then the update. After that try method 2 in the link I provided. Try using Tweakui for xp from Microsoft. Tweakui is a powerful program so use it wisely. I have before but there is no Vista version. Quote We are all members helping other members. RandyL Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 At the end of the day Doug you may have to ask yourself if this is worth it to save the trouble of a single click. I'm not prepared to offer a registry fix on this. Too dangerous. Quote We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. RandyL Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 In case I missed something I assume there is only one account. That also means the guest account is turned off. DSTM Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 I installed .net framework 1.1 no probs. I then Downloaded .net framework 1.1 SP1 and can't install. Get this POPUP. http://i43.tinypic.com/214e0ht.png In hindsight it wasnt worth all the headaches, but thought the solution would be simple Randy. I presume the guest account is turned off.How do I check? Doesn't ASP.NET have an account which I read something about Winlogin or something. I read somewhere in Microsoft that ASP.NET is the cause of having to click every start up.Could have got it wrong. I am game to alter the registry, and if I have steps,I think I wouldnt have a prob. The worst that can happen, is I take all info on to Flash and get the roque Computer Shop to reinstall Windows.Thanks. Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
RandyL Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 If I'm not mistaken this is by design that it works this way. Even on Vista you have to click on a user account. I would leave it alone less you make it worse. As far as net framework goes use the Windows updates to resolve it. Quote We are all members helping other members. DSTM Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 Ok,will do,Guys, and thanks so much for all your help.Much appreciated. One final question, please. The KB 928366 Hotfix I uninstalled. Will windows redownload it in the updates automatically?:) Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
BeeCeeBee Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 (edited) I do not know why you should need a hotfix at all if MS has addressed the issues. Please tell me what it was supposed to fix and where you got it originally. From my research it seems to have created more issues than it "fixed." I would suggest you just stick to the .NET Framwork and the Serivice Pack unless you run into more problems and then post before you act. DSTM Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 Hi beeceebee,I honestly don't know where it came from. From what I can make out it is for 1.1 SP1 and I dont have that. Only 1.1 so I wonder where it came from. Have been to Microsoft and downloaded all updates. No SP1 for 1.1. Will take everybody's advice, and a big Thankyou.:) Quote Confidence, is the feeling I get, moments before I stuff something up.
