Guest Noob Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 1 DHCP server (win2003) 2 scopes 10.x.x.x 192.x.x.x I have IP phones that get the 192 address and the PC's get the 10 address. Both are set to use DHCP. Both are connected to the same switches/network and not going through any router. How is this working?
Guest Noob Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Re: Can some one explain this DHCP config to me? More info My switches do have vlans configured for these ranges. So, this is segmenting the network and the phone is using the "ip phone (155) and vlan option (156)". I think I figgured out how it is connfigured. can anyone shed more light on this for me?

If the question is how does the server know which scope to allocate, then it can do it by MAC. VLAN's aren't necessary for routing, but may be a security enhancement or it may allow lower latency for the VoIP.
Guest Noob Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Re: Can some one explain this DHCP config to me? The question is: Why are the systems not picking up the 192 address and the phones do not pick up the 128? I am just trying to under stand DHCP a bit more.
