hi guys,

I recently had to get a new power supply after my PC wouldn't turn on.

The power supply was the same watt as my old one which was 600watts,

after the swap I've had to boot my PC twice to turn it on- I'd turn it on and window would not load - turn off the power then boot it again. also after a certain amount of time the PC crashes and the screen goes blank.

Can anyone help me with this?

p.s also 2 of my fans are not working.

There's alot of info in your post, can we go through it to get a clearer picture of what has happened?

You have swapped your PSU, was the old one faulty, or was it that your PC wouldn't start?

Which fans do not run - case fans only, or CPU cooling fan?

Have you given it a clean out, removed dust and debris from the CPU fan area?

When you have to boot it twice to get going, what happens the first time?

Also, have you tried unplugging the power connectors to the board and replugging them in - ie reseating them.

It is worth doing the same with the memory to make sure it is seated properly.

How long does it run for before it crashes - is roughly the same everytime, or always dfiiferent.

Hi enp

as I was reading your post I was thinking that this sounds like a Heat Issue and then got to the p.s. :)

think that the best people to sort this out would be Tootech or Dalo but there going to want to know a little more about your system so if you don't mind can you tell us if its shop bought make and model and any mods you have made.

or

if its home built what motherboard cpu how many hdds and how many fans you have left working, It might also help if you mention what events happened upto the point where you had to replace the power supply

If you boot the PC - there is a section on the post screen that says post count.

If the CPU is overclocked then some PSU's and MOBO's can be fussy and boot on the second or third post count - you do not have to physically turn off the PC for this though.

It sounds like the PC is unstable in supplying Voltages - check this is the BIOS as there is a section and it will show all the Voltages supplied and what they are meant to be eg 12V - post the results for us please

PSU was faulty

i have 4 fans including CPU fan and a nexus fan controller - only the fans on the motherboard work they don't work on the fan controller so at the moment i have the CPU fan on and the case fan,

the hard drive fan is not working and an internal fan i have put in also does not work.

i haven't cleaned it out yet but i will,

when i boot it the first time it gets to the point where windows is loading and there's a bar on the screen and that's the point where it freezes the bar just stops.

no i have not tried to reseat them I'll have to see how to do that,

does that mean taking the connectors to the board out then putting them back in?

good thing you asked it crash i few minutes ago actually i think its normally after 1.30- 2 hours maybe.

hope you have some ideas after this post.

Also its a home build

From what you are saying you seem to be having a few issues in regards to the fans not working etc - Most fans use a crossthrough cable basically you plug a Molex in BUT you have to make sure that the power runs to something like an HDD or an optical drive - it is not recommended to use the crossthrough cables to the HDD as they can reduce the power from the PSU.

Take a pic of the inside of the case and we can tell you what needs to go where, you can also have a look on my page and there is a PC build guide - you may want to have a look at it to get an idea of what I mean.

I dont think that all the components are getting the power required and its normally the ATX lead that people miss out.

hi again guys,

I think i must of reseated the motherboard and it has booted first time after shutting it down properly - when ever i shut it down properly it would have to be booted twice as I described,

I checked the bios thing to do with the voltages they all look pretty close to the required voltage, i will give you them exactly if you want when i next have to turn on my computer (hopefully not to soon). I think the problem to do with the fans is to do with a faulty fan controller the light on it turns on but i don't think its supplying any power to the fans. I don't understand much about cables by the way so i didn't know what pictures to take so here's a couple -

sorry if the pictures a too big

that's the motherboard and fan controller,

i know its a mess and very dusty, I cable tied it all up afterwards.

If you need any specific pictures just tell me.

thanks for being so helpfully guys
