double posting question?

just a thought and I think the answer is no as I've not seen it done elsewere and most forums are built round a standard template.

 

But one of the things that i think is great about this site is the time or lack of it to get a reply, however this at times seems to work adversely as its possible for two people to be replying to the same post at the same time.

 

I was just wondering if it was possible to flag a post so that you can see if someone is replying to it, even better who.

 

or shall I just go sit up the corner with the 'D' hat on for suggesting something that would require that much code that the site server would'nt be able to cope or cause the page to load that slow we'd be able to go make a cup of tea (256k modems used to have perks)

This has been an issue a few times - I dont think there was a resolution to the double posting.

It didnt used to be an issue a while ago as there were times that mods and admins were not on for hours, now 99% of the time there is an admin or a mod on.

 

It would be worth revisiting as we are getting busier and busier and more and more people posting and it will happen more frequently

Also, there is a way of seeing who is replying to what, it isn't fully accurate, but if you click on the "Who's online" link under "quick links" at the top, then you can see what everyone is doing and who is viewing what/replying to what.

Its not ideal though as the timing is way out.

I know, thats why I did say it's not accurate :P

But it's the closest thing we have at the moment to tell.

just to add while I've got the thinking cap on, might not a grading system awarded by the owner/administrators on the quality and accuracy of peoples posts be a bright Idea or do I get a slap with a large wet fish for suggesting something that would create work?

WET FISH!!! :DActually we have considered this business of ratings and rejected it. It creates a competitive atmosphere and an awful lot of non helpful posts. A thank you when we help is always appreciated though.

 

The time out on the forum is 20 minutes so "whose on Line" should be viewed with that in mind.
