Where is \\Server_Name?

Hello.

We have SBS2003 server, SP2.

This might seem pretty stupid, but when i go to Start/Run and type in

\\Server_Name, where does that take me? I can't match that up to any place

on my hard drive using Windows Explorer or My Computer.

I'm specifically looking for the folder mspclnt which shows up in

\\Server_Name, but i can't find it when i search the hard drive.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony

It won't take you to a specific place on the hard drive. It's the 'root'

of the shared namespace, if you see what I mean. It'll show shared

folders, printers, scheduled tasks.

The share name doesn't have to match the actual name of the folder being

shared. That share sounds like the ISA Proxy client software.

You can find out where a particular shared folder actually is by going

into the Computer Management console (compmgmt.msc) and looking under

Shared Folders -> Shares. That'll tell you where to look.

In a command prompt on the server, type

net share

What you're looking for is the MS proxy client, it seems.

In addition to Chris' reply (\\servername takes you to the root of your

servers shares & shows you all available shares) you might post future

questions in microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs. That's a good group to

start with when you have questions on how to do things, as SBS does a lot of

things its own way.

Thanks to Chris and Lanwench for their replies. I have a better

understanding now.

It will give you a list of visible shares on the computer named

"Server_Name".
