Hard Drive - New system

If i were to build a new computer, having allready got a hard drive from my current system, would it just be a matter of plugging the hard drive in and everything (programes, files) would all be the same as the previous system. Sorry im fairly new to the whole building.

Err, in a word NO Xeqt

 

The previous drive from the old system would contain hardware parameters that would not match the new box specifications you see.

afraid not the only way that you could possibly save whats on that HDD (if it hasn't been fried) would be to put it in as a second drive (Slave) other that that you would have to formate it and load the OS back onto it as it configures itself to your motherboard as it installs.

basically without going into too much detail. there are a set of jumper pins on the back of the drive, and depending on where you place the jumper connection depends on how that drive works IE as a Master drive or slave drive,

 

provided that the drive is still working when it is set as a slave drive you should be able to read the files of it and your computer will recognise it as ither a D:\ or E:\ drive depending on what you set it as in the bios.
