Fake AV that came from a Best Buy PC

My friend's mom bought him a PC from Best Buy which came with an AV called "WeBroot".

 

 

I thought that sounded fishy because I had never heard of it before, so I looked it up and apparently WeBroot is a scam, and if you choose to cancel your subscription to WeBroot, it locks some parts of your PC from being able to be used - which seems to have happened to my friend.

 

 

I was wondering if it is actually this WeBroot thing that caused his computer to become almost unusable (He is unable to click the start button in the lower left hand corner), or if it was just merely a coincidence.
