Disconnected network shares

Recommended Posts

Posted

I have approximately 100 users on our network that consists of 7 servers.

There are approximately 1 dozen users that get disconnected from one server

consistantly. That is a W2K server with network shares. I am pretty sure it

is a DNS issue because I can ipconfig /release /renew and that works (most of

the time).

Sometimes I do not even have to do that, just click on the shared drive and

it comes back.

Thanks,

And it was a malfunctioning access point from SiteCom.

I don't know if this info is relevant. but it's free so their you go :)

Re: Disconnected network shares

when I run nslookup, I get a list of 8 ip addresses. I only have 3 Domain

Controllers. Those three are listed, but then I have 5 others listed. I can

identify four of the others as local computers, but the final one is a dead

IP that I had used in the past.

What could cause this and how do I fix it?

Re: Disconnected network shares

On another computer, I run nslookup and there is a message of non existant

domain, but then it lists 4 servers. three of these are different from the

other computer. Two of these are Exchange servers (one of which is a DC),

one is a file server on our network and the other is a local pc.

Where does this information come from? Obviously I have a problem somewhere.

I would double check the DNS settings. These search results may help,

Nslookup

Nslookup.exe is a tool for testing and troubleshooting DNS servers.

Example. To query for the Chicagotech.net MX record, type the following:

C:\> nslookup . ...

http://www.chicagotech.net/nslookup.htm - Similar pages

Nslookup receive non-authoritative answer

As you can see, it is correct in the nslookup (192.1.1.53). ...

nslookup > yahoo.com. (notice the period at the end of it?) ...
