Greg: Thanks. I read what you wrote on that link and found it rather dismaying. I have to back up all my stuff because my disk will be wiped out by the reinstall, then do the reinstall and then do a restore ? That does not inspire confidence in the windows product. I think the solution of finding another malware product that will make antimalware turn itself off - if true - makes more sense. And Microsoft itself should make that product - and provide it free in an update - given everyone's problems with what we all have now.
