jamesbrown Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 For a while now i have been having problems with this. When i load the pc without the graphics card driver, it works fine (but looks rubbish) When i load the driver from cd and then restart, windows doesn't load. I went into safe mode and rolled back the driver. This removed it. I tried again, but this time i asked windows to search for a driver, it found one and installed it. When i switch on, windows loads and i get the welcome screen. I type in my passwork, and my desktop loads, but then completly freezes after less than a second. I have been having this problem for a long time now. Is it because the graphics card just doesn't work? Do none of the drivers i install work? Is there a bug, is the thing just broken. It is very new, this is a home built pc and has had next to no use because this problem has been preventing me from doing anything on it. Thanks, Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Go into control panel and remove the display adapter - You mentioned using a disk - ALWAYS get drivers for a GPU from the Nvidia site - there is a tool there where you put in your OS and the family of the GPU - 9 in your case and then download the driver - Restart your machine after removing the old one in add/remove. When it restarts - ignore all the windows update stuff and install the downloaded one you got from the Nvidia site Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.

jamesbrown Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 no luck.. I can't believe it. After all this, after waiting an hour for the latest driver to download off the internet, and then installing it, i get all the problems i've been having over the last couple of months again. The welcome screen just won't load. Is there anything i can do now before simply sending the *******ing thing back to the factory? It was really expensive. Quote
jamesbrown Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 graphics driver I've been having the same problem for months now but haven't had the time to deal with it until now. I've built a new pc, and with it i installed a nVidia GeForce 9800GT. Everything is fine without the graphics drivers installed, but whenever i do (even the latest version from the nVidia website) i get a completly blank screen on startup, just after the windows loading menu. Already i've gone into safe mode hundreds of time and unstalled the driver and reinstalled it. i've tryed every tackt but every time when i think i've cracked it, i just get a blank screen instead of the friendly windows vista orb. What should i do? Is there anything i can do software based before i send it back?? thanks, Quote

jamesbrown Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 .. I'm not sure. After feeding in the information about my system into the Nvidia website, it came up with this: GeForce Driver Release 181 WHQLVersion:181.22Release Date:January 22, 2009Operating System:Windows Vista 64-bitLanguage:U.S. EnglishFile Size:95.6 MB This is a WHQL-certified driver for GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9, and 200-series desktop GPUs. This is the one i downloaded. I'm getting a replacement free today, will post here once installed with results. Quote
jamesbrown Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 sorted Hi guys...and gals, Everything is sorted in this area (though there are problems else where) It was a problem with the graphics card, it was just faulty and wouldn't work with the drivers installed. Got a replacement for free, and it works fine with the drivers. Thanks for everyone's help. jb Quote
