worried maybe my desktop, Mac, got a virus???

today after turning on my desktop, Mac, from the sleep mode, the screen was different? still saw my screen saver on desktop, but instead of al the usual icons & being ready, its showed a large window in the center saying something like "apple likes to constantly improve its system, etc" or something to that effect?? when i hit the "back" icon, nothing happened, and when i hit the "continue" icon, it changed windows to one that said, "setting up, ..."??? then my screen appeared as usual and ready? i haven't used it since, not sure what really happened???? any ideas or suggestions or is this normal???
