Guest zaz Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Current Domain Forest and Domain is Windows 2000 Windows 2000 SP 4 Server DC + FSMO Roles Windows 2003 R2 Server member Server Looking to discontinue Windows 2000 Server I would like to use the 64bit technology now as I need to get a new server. Is it possible to introduce a Windows 2003 R2 64bit server then making it a DC and transferring all FSMO roles over to it? I know I can do this with a 32bit..... Thanks

My only suggestion is that if you intend to extend your schema to obtain all R2 functionality (after demoting your Windows 2000 DC), you perform adprep from 32-bit R2 media. If you attempt to use adprep off of the 64-bit CD it will fail with an error saying that the adprep.exe is invalid. See the following MS article: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=919151 -- Joseph T.
