What do you mean? Is the Control Panel option for Power missing, or what? You need to supply a bit more info to clarify what is "missing", or what doesn' work, and what is still there. Details please..... </quote> -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ "DaffyD®" <daffyd@woohoo.com> wrote in message news:u9%23JMSGKIHA.1208@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > What file do I transfer from the cd to restore the power management power > schemes? Guest Paradoxdb3 Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 RE: Lost My Power Schemes You can just create your own new schemes. I assume you must have deleted the schemes that came with Windows 98 by default...the "Always On" power scheme, Portable/laptop scheme and so forth? You can create your own scheme and name them whatever you want, or name them Always On, Portable/Laptop, ect to replace the default ones. You don't need to load them on from the Windows 98 installation CD. "DaffyD®" wrote: > What file do I transfer from the cd to restore the power management power > schemes? I'm now accessing this group thru Google. Thanks for understanding.

Thanks. Control Panel's Power Management seems to be associated with this executable: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\POWERCFG.CPL There is an .inf file that appears to be associated with the original installation: C:\WINDOWS\INF\POWERCFG.INF The .inf makes reference to these files: powercfg.dll PowerCfg.inf powercfg.cpl powrprof.dll batmeter.dll At the bottom of the .inf there are these strings: POWER_HOME_OFFICE = "Home/Office Desk" POWER_PORTABLE = "Portable/Laptop" POWER_PERSONAL_SERVER ="Always On" The .inf file itself contains the data for the various policies (see below). It appears that the actual policies are stored in the registry, not in files. ========================================================== ;Desktop policy HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Controls Folder\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies\0","Policies",1,\ <block of data> ; portable policy HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Controls Folder\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies\1","Policies",1,\ <block of data> ; Always On policy HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Controls Folder\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies\3","Policies",1,\ <block of data> ========================================================== It seems to me that you could copy the appropriate files from your CD (or locate them on your HD) and then r-click powercfg.inf and select Install. - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email.

That was a great idea but it didn't work for me. Somehow my Windows installation has been corrupted. Thank you for your reply.
