RandyL Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Hi richard; If you have Windows Media Player 10 on Vista you do indeed have a media problem as Vista ships with version 11. Version 10 is not supported on Vista. You talk of opening AOL and also accessing your email sign in screen. We need to be clear here. Are you using AOL? When you say opening AOL do you mean opening the AOL AIM Instant Messenger? Is the email you mention the AOL web based mail? You say you checked the advanced internet settings in all the accounts to see if they were the same. But are you using and talking about the AOL Explorer browser or Internet Explorer 7 browser and which one do you actually use? Are those "system updates" actually Windows Updates? I can't find anything on those so if it is Windows Updates you really do have a problem because they don't appear to be legit. As for AOL issues you will find support almost non existent anywhere except AOL itself as they live in their own little world but of course we can try to find something. That fact that the other three accounts all seem to have suddenly developed the same problems means this probably isn't a case of a corrupt account profile. But to me it's a clue. As is can't open AOL Aim is a clue. And those updates might be a clue too. You don't mention security on your PC but either way you do have some signs that your computer may be infected with malware. I think it would be wise to follow our guide in it's entirety. Your computer appears to be infected with Malware. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. It is in your best interest to note the following: Please disable your resident security applications (such as AVG, Spybot, WinPatrol, etc.) before performing the below procedure so that they do not interfere with the process. Perform all the steps in the order listed to avoid any conflicts. If unsure, please stop and voice your doubts. You might be required to go offline during the disinfection process. Therefore, it is recommended to print off the instructions below for ease of reference. If you stick to the above guidelines, all should go smoothly. ================================================ STEP 1Download ATF-Cleaner by Atribune. Save the file to your Desktop. To do so, right-click on the Internet Explorer icon in the Start Menu and select the Run As Administrator option in the shell context menu. Check mark the YES, I accept the Terms of Use box. Click the Start button. Click the Install button on the following screen. Click Start. This will will initialize and update the scanner engine. Check mark the box beside Remove found threats. Click the Scan button. This will start the scan. Please be patient while it is in progress. Restart your computer. ================================================ STEP 5Click on Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools and select System Restore. Choose the radio button marked Create a Restore Point on the first screen and click Next. Give the restore point a name then click Create. The new point will be stamped with the current date and time. Keep a note of this so you can find it easily should you need to use System Restore. Next, click on Start > Run, type Cleanmgr and click on OK. Click on the More Options tab. Click the Clean Up button in the System Restore section to remove all previous restore points except the most recent one. This will remove any infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in "System Restore" are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only foolproof way to ensure the deletion of those files. Note: Please don't use it on a regular basis as this will clear all previous restore points. The feature might be very useful to revert your computer to working condition if something goes wrong. richard591 Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 hi mate just to clarify the points u mentioned. 1. the aol account im accessing is a free email account.aol is not my broadband provider. 2. im not sure on this mind, but i think my vista came with media player 10 i think when i tried to upgrade to 11 it caused problems. on my user account on the computer its still working fine and so did it on all 3 other users until recently. 3.just to clarify i checked the internet settings on ie 7 i have no aol programmes on my computer. 4. i apologise for this one, the2 updates are both KB908002 NOT WHAT I STATED EARLIER!!.it says they are for shared add in extensibility for NET 2.0 frramework and a support add in for NET2.0 framework. what i cant understand is that in the programs and features display panel ,theses updates are not in the windows update panel but 2 programs in the main box. i cant uninstall them as an error message pops up when i try saying that it is a network resource and is unavailable.in the INSTALLED UPDATES panel they are not showing up as installed programmes. 5.up untill a few weeks ago i had mcafee installed but it expired. recently i downloaded windows one care center on a free trial.but i have uninstalled it as i thought this programme may have caused the problem.i also have ad-aware anniversary edition installed but no other malware program at present. hope this sheds some more light on the problem...many thanks!!!
