Guest Robert Baer Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 About 10 years ago, it loaded fine and i was able to configure the various toolbars, etc to my liking. Maybe because i have already installed Firefox, i have been having problems with getting NS7.2 to work. Install, and the top looks "reasonable", but "items" on the top bar like "edit / view / bookmarks" etc do not work, and there is only one toolbar below that (fine with me), but the buttons do not work. URL address bar is always blank, and no (valid) URL displays *ever*. Uninstall, re-install; everything is in a different place on the HD, but it looks and acts the same. Tried some editing of panacea.dat, changing logic from hidden="true" to hidden="false" etc on a number of items. Lo and behold, i got more toolbars..more unuseable stuff. Has Firefox screwed me? BTW, on the old drive, i recently loaded Firefox and both browsers seem to work.

Upadte: Where FireFox was loaded first, NS7.2 absolutely refuses to work properly. However,"fixes" for getting the home page to show in the address bar, and removing "Bookmark tool bar folder" line does *NOT* work. Where FireFox has not been loaded, NS(anything) works OK. Am a bit gun shy about loading FF now...

Guest Bill in Co. Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Re: Netscape 7.2 in Win98SE I'm curious as to why he's using Netscape 7.2, when version 9 is now out? I guess just because he has it on his computer? I've got Firefox 2, and I think it's a bit better than Netscape now, at least for my basic purposes, but, who knows. (I do recall briefly trying out Netscape 9, but found I liked FF a bit better, but can't remember why now!). Certainly loading FF first gives serious problems to NS. Loading NS first seems to be the best route. Do not know yet if registry crumbs after uninstalls will dis-allow that "solution" after uninstall of both.

AFAIK both e-mail and NG support does not exist in 9.x.

What about just using OE for that, though? (Or maybe you already said). > AFAIK both e-mail and NG support does not exist in 9.x. OK, good to know. Thanks. I think you're right on the latter (and maybe that's why its filesize is a lot smaller - like only 5 or 6 MB, or so)

FireFox and Netscape interact, sometimes in a nasty manner. You can run both *only* if you load Netscape first. If you load FireFox first, then uninstall will not be sufficent; must ininstall anything that looks like Java, then get out the sledgehammer and edit the registry; remove all Mozilla stuff and Firefox stuff. If you had also installed Netscape, uninstall that as well before smashing the registry. Also delete all folders related to NS and FF and Mozilla. *Then* you might have a chance.
