Roaming Profiles and Mail Profiles on TS

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have roaming profiles enabled on my Terminal Server and I notice that from

time to time my users outlook (2003) loses its settings and they have to go

through the configuration again! Does anyone know what could cause this?...as

its starting to become a nuisance.

The Roaming Profile path is set fine, is a full UNC and has the correct

paths set on it.

Any suggestions?

Emma

Make sure you set a *different* path for TS profiles for each of these

users. Do not let your roaming / TS profiles mix 'n match or you'll have

problems galore.

e.g., roaming profiles: \\server\profiles$\%username%

and TS profiles would be \\server\teprofiles$\%username%

If you also set up folder redirection for My Documents, App Data, and

Desktop (each to a subfolder of, e.g., \\server\home$\%username%) they

shouldn't miss much. But you will have to maintain two Outlook profiles

unless you're using .prf files in your login script.

Keep your profiles *tiny* (both roaming & TS) and things will work pretty

well. I'd also suggest the User Profile Hive Cleanup utility on all

servers/workstations.

Beyond that, check your event logs.

I strongly second that recommendation. An absolutely critical and

necessary utility...
