User Name in Dialer (Dial-Up connection)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I know how to change the phone number in the Dialer (dial-up internet)

via properties, but the only way I know how to change the User name in the

Dialer and have it "stick" (saved) is to actually connect to the internet.

Do you know of a way without me connecting?

Thanks in advance, Brad

Before you type your password, credit card number, etc.,

be sure there is no active keystroke logger (spyware) in your PC.

I will describe how to get to the area where it can be changed, but

all directions are applicable to Win98SE. If XP, you're on your own.

Click

Start

Settings/Control Panel

Internet Options

Connections Tab/Settings

Highlight your ISP[default]

Settings/Dial-up Settings at the bottom.

I unfortunately don't have a functioning DUN connection to play with, but as

far as I know, you're stuck with the situation as is. Only thing I can think

is to search the Registry for the currently listed username (the one that

comes up now when you invoke the DUN connectoid) and see if you can't locate

a place where the Username and/or Password are stored. Change username to

what you want and see if that works when you bring up the DUN connection.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to change any stored password, so I don't

really see what benefit you will get by changing the username in the

Registry. You'll still have to manually enter the password and it will ONLY

be saved properly if you connect successfully.
