Guest MJZRAZ Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 2003 Server R2 64 Bit in a 3 Node Cluster with 2 SAN Storage drives of 1 TB each. We have 1300 quotas, mostly user home directories and maybe 50 shared departmental directories. When opening the MMC We have to wait over an hour before it loads all the quotas and is useable. If I need to refresh, there goes another 60 minutes. Other than using the command line, is there a faster way to manage this? Do others have this agonizing slow response from FSRM? I have tried it both logged into the server and logged into a workstation and it takes the same time. Our previous experience was with Symantec Storage Exec which had lots of problems, but we have @ 6000 quotas there over 10 volumes and even if we load them all (when it's working) that only took 10-15 minutes. Is FSRM really this bad? I would love to hear of other's experience and # of quptas and sizes of volumes to compare.
Guest MJZRAZ Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 RE: FSRM mmc console takes 60+ minutes to load the list of quotas After posting I did find another older discussion: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/community/newsgroups/dgbrowser/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.server.general&tid=aca0964d-3da9-4b63-aefa-1f5333d61375&cat=en-us-technet-win2003&lang=en&cr=US&sloc=en-us&m=1&p=1 The part I found most interesting was that disabling the NIC caused the quotas to load according to the poster. I am 10 miles from the Data Center so disabling the NIC might not be wise. I suppose I could do it through the IP KVM, but to do that every time might be a pain. Waiting an hour for a console to load to perform a 30 second task is ridiculous.

Guest MJZRAZ Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Re: FSRM mmc console takes 60+ minutes to load the list of quotas Command line could work, but takes the ease of use and throws it out the window. One of the problems we were hoping to solve with FSRM is that under certain hotfix combinations we lose the ability to view the managed objects in Storage Exec and then we have to use symantec's command line tool. Guest Jabez Gan [MVP] Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Re: FSRM mmc console takes 60+ minutes to load the list of quotas Well honestly FSRM doensn't work well in certain conditions and i find it easier and more painless to be using the command line tool. -- Jabez Gan Microsoft MVP: Windows Server - File Storage "MJZRAZ" <MJZRAZ@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:578107A6-4043-4B73-8B5D-72BCA9B2BE3A@microsoft.com... > Command line could work, but takes the ease of use and throws it out the > window.
