Hello everyone,

Windows media player works fine until i try to play multiple video files e.g. file 1 plays fine, when it ends to go on to file 2, media player crashes and i have to open it again.

Also it sometimes crashes if i try to move forward/backward through the video file. But it will happpily play a full dvd of video file as long as it is not touched, it appears to be really draining resources when i try to change video file, like a possible memory leak.

Any helps appreciated, thanks!

I'm inclined to think that it is a memory issue.... but first... what are your computer specs?

Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.6 GHz

6GB RAM

500 GB HDD

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 with 128MB dedicated memory

Hi tidy,

When did this begin to occur with relationship to your "pixel issue" that you also posted today. I am starting to think that these may stem from a single issue and, perhaps, be merged into one thread.

Comment on this please.

I agree with you... both problems could indeed be tied to the graphics card.

windows media player crashing happened way after the pixel issue, but thank you for noticing! sorry for not posting into one thread! my reason for this was that i thought they fell under differant categories!

My apologies!

i cant remember off the top of my head and im still at work but i think its..

2.8ghz

550gb mem

nvidia 5500 256mb

and strangely 756mb RAM which always puzzled me as i thought they had to be the same size sticks!

thanks for your time!

also i am only playing 1 file at a time, its when i go to change file that it crashes, if i were to shut media player and open a new file it would work fine.

thanks

Which version of media player are you using to play the files?

Does that problem persist with every movie file.. or only large files?

Ok... from your two threads... I am betting that it is indeed a graphics card problem.

The media player issue is more than likely related to the memory of the video card. THe pixel problem is related to the card directly. I would say it's time for a new video card.

Curiosity gets the better of me here! after reading the two threads I'm inclined to agree with Help4me, but I was just wondering, in days of old there was an obsession about 'Bench Marking your PC' and for the life of me I can remember the program we used, but one of the tricks was to overclock your GPU which would led to the Gray pixeling effect you mention as the GPU over heated, I was just curious as to whether or not you've tried overclocking your GPU or if you have checked it's heat sink for dust?

One of the best ways to check if a GPU is failing or the drivers are is to open a command window and type dxdiag and run the tests that are there.

If there is indeed an issue with the card it will be here that it is noticed more.
