Guest naguaramipana Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Hi gurus Here is my setup, I have three DC, I have office a with two dc and I have office B with one DC, all three dc are windows 2000 server based, The box on office B is getting very very old and finally I get to change it for a new box, I would like to migrate this old box to a new windows 2003 server DC. can someone point me to the step by stpe on doing this.- office A and its two DC are ok, they are fast and I dont want to change that, but I dont know If its ok or even possible to have three DC where one of them is a windows 2003 based. Thanks gurus.
Guest SBS Rocker Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Re: New DC replacement Which server holds the FSMO roles? If the box in office B is not the primary DC with the FSMO roles then all you need to do is dcpromo it out of the domain and bring the new w2k3 server online and dcpromo it to be a DC. No migration needed unless there is data you want to move over. Guest naguaramipana Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Re: New DC replacement SBS Thanks a bunch, My FSMO is on one of my wk2 server DC, so by this, it means that all I have to do is, dcpromo the DC on office B which is a wk2 server then turn around and DCpromp the wk3 server and my family of DC will be ok? 2 wk2 dc one of them with FSMO at Office A and the wk3 DC at office B. Dont you have to do anything for wk2 DC to deal with wk3 DC? Thanks "SBS Rocker" wrote: > Which server holds the FSMO roles? Guest SBS Rocker Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Re: New DC replacement Yes you will be ok as long as the W2K in office A is the primary DC that holds the FSMO roles. DCPROMO the W2k server in office B and remove it from the domain. Build the new W2K3 server in office B and DCPROMO it into the domain. There are no issues with W2K and W2K3 servers residing and acting as DC's in the same domain. however I would suggest that you also upgrade the remaining 2 W2K servers to W2K3 servers.
