beebsharris Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I can't for the life of me work out how to stop all the programmes that I don't need to open when I 1st log on to my comp! It's been driving me mad coz they slow my comp down soooo much and it's getting annoying having to close them all every time. Quote
BeeCeeBee Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Hi BeeBs, The best way is to click on start and then run. A box will come up. Type msconfig in the box and and then ok. The Sytem Configuration Utility will come up. Go to the startup tab and you will get a list of all programs that run on startup. You can disable them by removing the tick mark and then apply when you are completed. Once you click on reply you will be prompted to reboot. Do so. The Sytem Config box should be back on the screen after you reboot. Make sure the items that you disabled remain that way and then go to the General tab and click normal startup. You can exit without resarting. The next time you boot the utility should be gone. Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain

Just as a side note to this - it is not advised to disable items that you dont know what they do - be very careful with what you disable - if you expand the second pane of writing this normally gives a clearer indication of what program owns the startup entry Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
BeeCeeBee Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I am glad that Dalo caught that. I had intended to add that if you are unsure about any item leave it and ask here. But I didn't:) Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain
