Spartan73 Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Me again Hpoe you're all well! I have a prob again guys, hoping someone can help. I had an auto update of a sort come through ( i wasn't paying attention tbh) and when i was prompted to restart the pc,I did so! But now it won't go past the boot logo screen. It asks me to press delete for setup or tab for post bios message, but my kb is not responding either. I tried a wired kb, which lights up on reset, but then doesn't respond either. tried reseting the pc a few times and the same thing occurs. Its a pretty new PC and even newer hDD. Any suggestions please? :) Quote

Spartan73 Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 Not sure at all, I would be lying if i said yes or no. I was doing loads of things at the time, and previously installed a sony erricson program to update my phone ( because thats also playing up ) a couple of hours before. Not sure if it was that either.. I think I may have left a browser open when i clicked restart, and didnt shut down the pc properly. I thought Id go and make a quick cup of tea while it restarted, and when i got back it was just like it is now. :( Quote
RandyL Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Spartan the disk should be bootable. Since it won't boot from the disk you should check the BIOS to see if the disk drive is set as the first boot option. Can you even get into the F8 options or enter the setup? Setup would be the BIOS. Dalo Harkin Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 It sounds like something more than the update has caused this issue. When you say it wont go past the boot logo screen - do you mean the BIOS post screen or the windows splash screen before it stops? Spartan73 Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 I think its the Bios Post screen. It says Asus at the top etc.... Tried pressing f8 in deifferent ways...no luck :( Quote
BeeCeeBee Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Spartan the disk should be bootable. Since it won't boot from the disk you should check the BIOS to see if the disk drive is set as the first boot option. Have you checked the boot sequence in your bios? Also how new is this hard drive. When you go into the bios will you also check to make certain that the hard drive is being recognised? Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain
Spartan73 Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 Hi thanks loads for your help and time guys. I can;t get into the bios i dont think. I built the machine a bout a year ago ( but changed the hard drive around 6 months ago!! and has very little on it! ) Its my home PC and has had very little use since i changed the hdd ( due to extra commintments at work ). I leave the PC on for days, sometimes weeks before switching it off. I like it "always on" and heard somewhere thats its better for the PC, as it stays at a constant temperature, and reduces dry joints ( oh yeah people started talking about saving energy shortly after i heard that ) The most its been used for in the last 6 months is browsing and watching TV on iplayer... DirtyPolo Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 to clear up the issue of if you can get into the BIOS or not, As it is booting up, keep tapping the Del key constantly. Spartan73 Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 Tried that just now. No luck I think its rendering the KB useless. When you restart the PC, the lights on the KB flash, but once on the Bios Logo screen appears, I think it doesn't respond ....the caps lock LED does NOT illuminate ( for eg ) Quote
