Guest Bob Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Hi, I notice that when a Domain Admin user logs on to the domain, it often will not synchronize its local and roaming profile. If I were to make significant changes to the local profile (such as modifying many Favorites url's), it then will synchronize. But if I do a small change (such as change the properties of one shortcut), that will not synchronize. If I delete the local profile, it will refresh from the roaming just fine. Of course I only notice the problem when the user logs onto a different DC and the changes don't synchronize (even though I will find changes in the roaming profile). Logging on to an XP workstation seems fine however. I notice this same problem on other domains too. The roaming profile is located on the same hard drive that is within the DC, so there can't be any delays in retrieving it. Any ideas why this happens? Thanks! --- Bob

Or a login script. Or folder redirection. A domain admin account shouldn't be used for anything besides domain admin purposes. How many domain admin accounts do you actually have in your environment? You mention "logs onto another DC" - how many people are logging directly onto your servers (as in, not the domain)? No account used to log into a server for admin purposes should have a roaming profile. Also, roaming profiles are not "cross-platform friendly" - you shouldn't log into computers/servers running different OSes with roaming profiles enabled. They are not compatible. Lastly - note that there's no 'synchronizing', when you're talking about roaming profiles. It's a straight download/upload, and the last one wins. All those dire warnings aside, you could check the event logs, and I'd also make sure you're running the user profile hive cleanup utility.
