Nugentd Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 I have all the LOTR Lord of the rings games for the pc, recently i have had an urge to play them all again, so i decided to re-install them back on to my computer, the thing is, when i put the cd's in, nothing happens, it doesnt auto-install, ive tried double clicking on the icon in my computer but still nothing, ive been told by a mate that it could be because ive already had them installed and the computer thinks i dont have to re-install them again? have u any ideas on what i can do to re-install these. cheers. All other games are loading fine, it just seems to be the LOTR games which arnt loading? Quote
BeeCeeBee Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 If the games are installed they should be able to be found by using your windows explorer. In addtion they should also show up in your add or remove programs in your control panel. Instead of double clicking on the icon try a right click and then explore. Let us know what you see. Dalo Harkin Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 The games will be in the defualt location of C:\ program files\ then the name of the game maker eg EA have a look in there and then just launch the icon from there rather than the disk Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
Nugentd Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 Its defo not installed on the computer, ive just checked everywhere for them, there not on my c or d drives, and they dont show up in my add/remove programs, ive tried searching for anything to do with LOTR which i might have to either delete or change to help me but i cant find a thing, its defo not the cd's aswell as ive borrowed 2 of my mates LOTR games, so the chances of 5 games not working surely mean theres sumthing wrong in my pc? thansk for your help and replys so far. Dalo Harkin Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Right - so you put the cd in the drive and then go to my computer - where the drives and opticals are listed. do you hear the CD/DVD drive spin up? do other disks work ok in the drive ? Sorry if the questions sound basic, but I just wanted to check that its not something simple before we go registry hunting  Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
Nugentd Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 I can hear the disc spinnign and the sand-timner comes up as if its going to load up but it doesnt, Its shows up in my computer, and i can open it and explore the disc but cant seem to get it to load up so i can install.... Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Ok when you explore the disk - there should be a setup exe in the root of the disk. Double click and see if it runs, if not right click and run as administrator. any problems with that let us know Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
Tony D Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Is there a file called SETUP on the disk? If so, double-click it. Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Nugentd Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 Nothing happens when i double click it, but when i right click and run as admin, it comes up with this message, "a problem occured when trying to transfer the file 'E:\AutoRun.exe' from the media. "do you want to retry to copy the file,or cancel the instalation?" when i press rety the same message comes up..... Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Is this a genuine disk? sounds like an uninstaller to me with something like a WINRAR file Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.
Nugentd Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 There all genuin discs. i have the serial numbers for all of them. Its weird, all my other games work, just seems to be these EA ones? Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Some games are just awkward and EA have been slated for this plenty of times in the past, it can sometimes be the encryption they use on the disks. I noticed that you mentioned the optical drive was E:/ Do you have another disk or another optical utilising D:/? as this may help. also have you tried cleaning the disks Quote Intel Q6600 @ 4Ghz (Watercooled)Asus P5K premium black pearl4GB OCZ Reaper 8500260GTX Join Free PC Help - Register here Donations are welcome - here PC Build We are all members helping other members. Please return here where you may be able to help someone else. After all, no one knows everything and you may have the answer that someone needs.

Cheers for ur help on this one. im not sure if anything could be utilising d? its just got a load of tunes on and pictures. Quote
BeeCeeBee Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Did you always have 2 hard drives or is it possible that these games were installed at a time when you only had 1. Quote "Familiarity breeds contempt - and children." Mark Twain
Nugentd Posted February 26, 2009 Author Posted February 26, 2009 Ive always had 2 hard drives, ive searched thru both of them aswell and theres no sign of the games, Quote
Dalo Harkin Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Battle for middle earth games are awesome !! Jelly Bean Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 (edited) Hey there. I know your profile says XP but to right click and run as admin you would be running Vista? Are you running XP or Vista? In my computer have you tried a right click on the rom drive while disk is inserted and choose explore? How much free space do you have on C: drive most games need a certain amount of free space to install. Do you have the compatible Direct x installed? Could you post fuller computer specifications as in hardware please? Have you updated your rom drive drivers? Are you trying to use a rom drive DVD or CD or a combo? Are you trying to install using a CD/DVD burner drive? Now I am not great at games but let me see if I can find any help with this untill others step in hopefully and give us a few clues. Jelly Bean. Tootech Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 I reckon either 1) Its a memory fault, but unlikely as you don't mention that your PC crashes. 2) Its a fault with your DVD drive. Can you read other CD's and DVD's on your computer? Can you borrow and fit a different DVD drive and check your discs again? Quote
Nugentd Posted June 12, 2009 Author Posted June 12, 2009 Thanks for the help tootech, evrything else on my computer works fine, and my cd dvd reader is playing all other files fine and other games, it only seems to be a problem with my EA games.... Quote
Tootech Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 It may be down to the quality of the EA CD pressings themselves, just slightly different from everything else. I would say swop it for another drive. Quote
Nugentd Posted June 12, 2009 Author Posted June 12, 2009 Ok... all 6 cds tho? seems weird, its reading all the disc but just when i clic on setup it does nothing.... weird Quote
