Guest Ben Waldon Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I have an issue with a Windows Server 2003 Server. We were installing some software, and the installation was abandoned before it could be completed. The server was rebooted and when it came back up, it couldn't start some of the services. A couple to note: Network Connection, Terminal Services, and Windows Installer. I booted into safe mode and disabled the Windows Installer service. I was then able to boot, start the other services, and run applications associated with the other services just fine. However, I can't install antivirus updates, windows updates, or other applications that use .msi files. I tried the procedures from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315346/en-us, but they didn't work. Method 1 seemed to work at first. I was able to boot a couple of times ok, but then a third time it hung up and I had to go in and disable the service again. When I tried Method 2, the installer program saw the service pack and thought that a newer version was already there. So, it wouldn't install. It seems like the windows installer service is corrupt. Any help would be great. My next step is to install an older version (that might not check the sp) and then install the latest version. I'd like to achieve full functionality of Windows Installer without compromising the other services. I am not sure if there is something I can do from the disk to install it without harming the configuration. Thanks, Ben -- Ben Waldon
