Slow printing using some HP drivers/printers on TS

Hi,

We are experiencing a big problem using Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0.0 on a TS.

When the print button or file/print is selected, it takes a while for the

print dialog to appear and then it takes a while for the little print preview

in that dialog to render. This problem can occur together with the actually

slow printing of the document, but this is not always the case. Our big

problem is the “slow” reaction BEFORE the printing. Depending on the server

it’s located on or the actual printer driver we use speed can vary from a

little slowdown to an apparent complete hang of Adobe Reader.

But the server or the driver is not the actual main cause. After some

further trouble shooting we found that not all users have this problem. Even

printing on “problem” servers with a “problem” printer driver, they have no

problems at all. But when they do have problems, it’s on every server and

with all pdf’s. There seems to be something wrong with the user profile. If

anyone has had the same problem and ultimately found a solution, please let

me know.

Kind regards,

Benny

Good day,

We continued to search a solution for this problem, but no success yet. We

already figured out the problem was probably caused by something in the user

profile. A colleague of mine, Pieter Mussche, actually did find something

really interesting in there.

When he created a new user (new profile) and a new printer, everything

worked fine. When he changed ONE setting (no matter what), the printing

became slow again. Re-creating the printer solved the problem. He pinpointed

the problem back to changing user specific settings on the printer.

Here are his findings :

- When configuring user specific settings (like paper tray, format..)

a registry key “DEVMODE” is created under the

“HKCU\printers\connections\the printer name\” of the user.

- When requesting the properties of the printer after setting some user

specific

settings the time that is needed to show the properties increases enormously.

# Deleting the DEVMODE key resolves the problem but of course removes

the configured settings for that printer

- This is NOT an adobe reader issue. This happens in other applications also

but less significantly.

The following printers are affected by this issue (but the list is not

limited to these models) :

• HP Color LaserJet 2500 PCL 5c

• HP Color LaserJet 4650 PCL 5c

• HP LaserJet 1320 PCL 5c

• HP LaserJet 4250 PCL 5e

• HP LaserJet 4345 mfp PCL 5e

Using an older printer driver or the default LaserJet4 drivers, solves the

printer problem, but limits the use of the printer itself. I can hardly

imagine we are the only users with this problem. Are there any other people

having similar printing problems with recent HP drivers? It would be nice to

actually be able to use the full potential of a printer with the normal speed

:-)

Kind Regards,

Benny

I've had the same problem. We now use the HP universal printerdriver and the

problem is solved.

having the same problem with adobe 7.0. still can't find solution, still

can't print anything from adobe 7.0. thinking of uninstalling this version

and downgrading to 6.0.

Hi,

Do you see the same slowness when printing from the Adobe 7.0 document on

the machine's local printer instead of the autocreated session printer?

Thanks,

Priya.
