Convert Physical to Virtual

I'm having some issues with my Windows 2003 R2 server and am at the point to

refresh it and start anew.

It takes forever to boot up, and seems slow. Considering it's a Dell

Poweredge 2850 with 5 146G 10k rpm SCSI drives, this server should smoke.

I've ran the dcdiag and netdiag and everything checkes out ok.

Since this is my only real physical server, has anyone converted a physical

to a virtual while they refreshed a server?

I need next to zero downtime during the switchover from physical to virtual,

and have a PC ready to accept all the data for the virtual server.

Looking for feedback on anyone who has tried anything similar to this.

Thanks.

Re: Convert Physical to Virtual

Hello Thom,

I think you should better post here all the issues you have and we try to

fix them before reinstalling it. Long boot time often depends on DNS problems.

Think it is a domain controller? Please post the complete result from dcdiag

and netdiag here.

Also moving to virtual machine can make problems and then you can loose also

all. And there are also some recommendation from MS about Virtual machines.

Best regards
