paulsif Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Hello I hope someone could help me with this little problem. I have recently brought a USB PCI card for my aunties PC, her existing two USB slots on her motherboard have stopped working the slots have become loose so i thought adding new ones would be easy. Well i added the card into the PCI slot and turned it on. On boot the BIOS start up recognised the card but there was an IRQ conflict I carried on booting windows XP and thought i'd look at it from windows. I checked device manager and it said there was an error (code 10) i researched this online an i was told normally the IRQ was 9 so I went into the BIOS setup and changed this. I rebooted the computer and windows wouldn't load I went back into the BIOS setup and changed the IRQ setup to auto again but still windows won't load. After about 10 - 15 reboots i got into windows but its still not solved the USB problem and windows still wont load straight away. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks. Quote
Match Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Hi paulsif can you give us a little information to help us please Make and model number of the USB PCI card The Make and Model of your auntie's PC or at least the motherboard, CPU specification. I think that it might just be a case of needing to disable the onboard USB, in the Bios settings to resolve the conflict, but if you can give us the information we will be able to have a better look and advise you more accurately. Thanks Quote
paulsif Posted March 1, 2009 Author Posted March 1, 2009 Hello mike, I dont have the pc here but i'll try to tell you what I can remember. The USB PCI card doesn't have a name or model number that i can remember, but here is a link of the card USB 2.0 4-Port PCI Card > Maplin The processor is AMD and its 1.02Ghz. As for the m/board its made by Asus. Any more info needed? Paul Quote
Match Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 :) Hi just had a look on the Maplin website,? they say all you have to do is plug it in and install the drivers :) sounds easy did they give you a Driver disk? because I don't think their link is much use unless you happen to speak Taiwanese. http://www.winic.com.tw/ZIP/W-U2004-CH.zip Quote
paulsif Posted March 1, 2009 Author Posted March 1, 2009 No they never gave me a drivers disk. In the instructions is said windows XP wouldn't need any additional drivers and it would install it itself Quote
Match Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 OK success Driver link Here what I suggest to try first is to Download the driver and then boot up in safe mode and try installing the driver from their. It might also help to disable the onboard USB in the bios if you can. Quote
paulsif Posted March 1, 2009 Author Posted March 1, 2009 Your a star thanks ill give it a try on tuesday and let you know how i get on Quote
