Guest Nick Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Hello, I know this is similar to other threads, but I can't find the exact same situation. I have running Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition Evaluation copy. Build 3790 (Service Pack 2). This I got from the microsoft download site. I aslo downloaded the R2 disc and have installed some of its components. My question is, when I 'upgrade' or 'repair' this installation to remove the 180 day limit, I know that I need the retail box version, but can I use the none SP2 version (P73-01669) or does it have to be the SP2 version (P73-02509). I only ask because, of course, the SP2 version is considerably more expensive. Many thanks for any help with this. -- Nick Brown Systechnix Ltd
Guest Meinolf Weber Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Re: Server 2003 STD eval SP2 upgrade to SP1 Hello Nick, Think you mean R2 in your version part and about the price? Because a Service pack is always free. If you running R2 tools then you have to choose the R2 version otherwise, you will become problems. Guest Nick Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 Re: Server 2003 STD eval SP2 upgrade to SP1 Hi Meinolf, Thanks for looking and helping. My question is worded accurately though. I know service packs are free, and yet, to buy the none SP2 version really is cheaper! I don't know why, but try a web search for the two different Microsoft part numbers, and you will see what I mean!
