Hi again. Sorry can only use the computer when running the generator - no electricty here.

I have re-installed windows XP as suggested. Now, obviously, I have no programs at all. Should I now take the PC back to the computer shop to re-install the programs? I cannot create a network anymore

I hate to see you spend money on small stuff. What programs do you want to install? This should be pretty straight forward.

What do you mean you cannot create a network any more? Do you mean connect to the internet or a network of your computers?

Well I would need word and excel. These came with the computer. I have searched and cannot find the Utilities or Drivers CD, and I am sure the computer shop still has them. I use a wireless internet hub (used by all three computers, and I cannot connect to it. I also cannot connect or create a network to the others like I had before

You probably need the drivers to connect with your network adapter.

If you think the shop can supply you with your drivers and programs I would try that first.

If they want to charge you money you can probably download the drivers from the manufacturers web site.

What is the exact make/model/number again? We might be able to help if the shop won't.

The network adapter is a wireless network hub called a Canyon wireless 11g AP Router CNP-WF514. It has a disc "Manual" AP Router, but when I open it, it has the same type of useless icons and no EXE file.

We go to the village (65Km from us) once per week (on Saturdays), so I will probably take this laptop and the problem one, and see if they can match them.

Are you sure that there is no .exe file or is it possible that the extensions are just hidden? Go to your control panel and click on "folder options." In the view tab there is a topic for hidden files and folders. Make sure that the box for "do not show extensions for known file types" is not ticked.

I have done as suggeted, and all folders on the CD appear to be PDF files. I cannot open them - I get the message that windows cannot open file etc, same as before

I think I see the problem and it is not a problem at all. The disk that you refer to "Manual" is just that a manual and that is why they are all pdf files. I think that you do not have a current or any pdf reader installed.

What you need is to download Adobe Acrobat Reader and you should then be able to read the manuals.

I have the CD for Nero Express, and have installed it. It seems to run properly. It also has Acrobat which seems to run as well. I can now open the PDF files. It seems a bit comlicated and will take time to read the manual. Any ideas on how to search for the wireless network adaptor?

Just right click on the little monitor icon down near the clock on your task bar and select "open network connections" (not view) If the manual is any good it should show you how to set it up.

I don't know the number of your fujitsu-siemens. You could try their support downloads site.

I did that. I opened network connections. It shows me two. One has a large red cross through it - the Local Area Connection. The otherone says 1394 connection connected

When I tried following the instructions on the manual, it says it needs the drivers. This may be the problem - I dont have the drivers.

It is quite possible that the drivers are missing for the device. If you see no wireless network connection and you have used it before then it must have gone with the new install.

Try following RandyL's link above or give us the exact model number and we should be able to locate the drivers for it.

Sorry I missed a post above. Forget the 1394 connection it is not involved. The red X through your LAN indicates that it is there and disabled. Probably not a driver issue with that. The Lan allows you to connect to your router with an ethernet cable. You can easily enable it by right clicking.

Again, assuming that you had wireless internet before, the device is there and the drivers are not.
