tismehi Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 toshiba sat pro laptop. vista premium, 120gb hdd, 2gb ram, amd athlon x2. a few days ago i tried to open a video on you tube and got a message: "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player." i checked this forum for old posts and advice and the best advice seemed to be to uninstal via adobe web link, then reinstall a fresh version. i also had a warning from my avira of the html.spoofing.gen before and again a few days ago too. therefore i followed all instructions posted in several places on this forum to suss out malware etc by running atf-cleaner, malware bytes, SUPERAntiSpyware, ESET Online Scanner and finally the restore task was completed also. nothing untoward was found by any of the above programs to my surprise. when i try again to watch the you tube video i get he same error message as before and my javascript is on. Guest Wolfeymole Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Have a look in Programs and Features Tis and tell us what versions of Flash Player and Java you have. Adobe Flash should be 10 and Java should be 6 Update 12 Quote
tismehi Posted March 3, 2009 Author Posted March 3, 2009 hi wolfey, i have just checked and i have java 6, update 11 and tried unsuccessfully to find update 12. also i have adobe flash player 10 plugin but there is no other adobe reference except reader and schockwave. Quote

tismehi Posted March 3, 2009 Author Posted March 3, 2009 hi, always firefox and have auto update on it, windows and avira. Quote
Plastic Nev Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Hi tis, in Firefox, click tools, then Add Ons, then click on plugins, that should show the versions of Java and Flashplayer, or if not there, they need to be uploaded. tismehi Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 hi nev, in there is shockwave flash 10.0 r22 and java se6 u11. for some weird reason, the youtube videos are now watchable. do i try to get to the bottom of it or just be glad its now ok and move on? Quote
Plastic Nev Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Hi again, because they are installed to Firefox as a plugin, they probably don't always show in the main list of "Add or Remove Programs". Who knows now why it wouldn't work before but does now, maybe going to look reminded Firefox that they were there eh!!:D Quote Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. Guest Wolfeymole Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Besides Java you should have these 2 items listed in Programs and Features Tis. Quote
tismehi Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 hi wolfey, i've just checked and i have player 10 plugin but not the latter so i'll search, find and install this. java has just completed the auto update of update 12. still can't comprehend why these things happen at all. thanks again to all contributors. a great site. tismehi Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 i've just tried to log on to hotmail or livemail in firefox and am unable to. bottom left of the screen says done but absolutely nothing is displayed - total whiteness. perhaps there are more problems with the browser. maybe i should remove it and reinstall it later on. i am able to access the site with internet explorer. Guest Wolfeymole Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 What version of Firefox are you running Tis? The latest is 3.0.6 Quote
tismehi Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 hi wolfey, i checked and i had version 3.0.4 so updated and it offered 3.0.7. installed and restarted firefox. still no access to hotmail yet. i can't see adobe flash player active x specifically in adobe site. is this a mozilla add on or maybe known by another name. Guest Wolfeymole Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Thanks for the heads up Tis, FF hadn't got round to informing me of the latest version. In the meantime go here to get the active x download. Download Adobe Flash Player ActiveX 10.0.22.87 - UpdateStar.com Hit the Direct Download. Quote
tismehi Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 wolfey, thanks for the link. i'm still a tad confused by this all. i download it but it just seems to me to be the flash player 10 plugin as listed in your previous post and not the flash player active x as listed too. when i look in progs and features only the plugin is there still. Guest Wolfeymole Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 In the grey area at the bottom there are two separate links, do a mouseover on each to see the location and what each contains. The active x one is on the right. Quote
tismehi Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 i've tried both and installed yet they are not listed as yours are displayed. Quote
Guest Wolfeymole Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Ok uninstall all versions shown in add/remove and reinstall both from that link Tis. Quote
tismehi Posted March 5, 2009 Author Posted March 5, 2009 sorry for trying your patience on this one. i did as directed and restarted pc and still have the same result - plugin only listed in programs & features. Quote
RandyL Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 See if this has anything that might help. Goku provided these links some time ago. Follow the instructions carefully. Flash install problems - how to fix Flash player installation problems such as the Youtube error - Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. General Error Messages : JavaScript / Flash Player error - YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. I would run the uninstaller, reboot then reinstall from the stand alone installer. tismehi Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 i have updated, uninstalled, reinstalled, restarted and i think i'm just about ready to give up. i got so many little niggly problems that i restored to a point before installing super anti spyware etc. i have the most recent firefox browser version, java, and flash player plugin. and too have downloaded and the flash player active x but it is still not listed in programs & features. my original problem was that i could not view you tube videos or open hotmail within firefox. i can now see the you tube videos ok and can open hotmail through internet explorer. so as i have tried each and every step above, methinks i'm probably better stopping at this point. cheers again to all. tismehi Posted March 7, 2009 Author Posted March 7, 2009 for some reason, hotmail now opens in firefox and it appears alls well for now. no doubt this will come back and haunt me. Quote
