VOB video file playing problem

I ripped video from a dvd into my laptop. I later learned it has file extension VOB. I can play the video with window media player in my laptop. My question is why after I send the file to a blackberry it will not play in the blackberry, even though the file is in the extended medium in the blackberry. Similar problem is after I send the VOB file to a DVD, I cannot play from the DVD with window media player. Is it possible that if I burn the file onto DVD, it might work?
