I have been trying to connect my partner's Acer TravelMate 292EXC wirelessly to various routers using a Linksys Wireless-G notebook adaptor to no avail.

There was a time when all we had to do was insert the adaptor and wherever we were (providing there was a signal) we managed to connect okay. Now we cannot connect anywhere to any router. What are we doing wrong please?

Are you talking about wifi, Mikey, or just routers in general?

Leaving aside all other possible issues, the only routers that you can connect to and use the internet are either routers for which you have the proper keys and settings or unsecured wireless networks.

Tell us a bit more about these routers and what you are doing to try to connect.

Many thanks............

........ between starting this thread and now I have been investigating further why the laptop won't connect and eventually used 'change advanced settings', clicked on the Wireless Networks tab, and ticked the Use Windows to configure box. Hey presto, it worked!!

Thanks for your response BeeCeeBee ... appreciated. Mikeywikey
