Can anyone tell me why my NIC wont respond after a reboot but as soon as I

disable/re-enable it it works?

Check the event logs. Check Device Manager for errors/stop codes.

Re: NIC wont respond after reboot until disable/re-enable

I would also update the NIC driver from hardware provider.

We've replaced the NIC and it was still not responding after reboots. We

performed an OS Reload (wiped the computer reinstalled win2k3) and the

problem still persists.

Does this smell like motherboard to anybody else?

What does not responding mean? From a command prompt;

ipconfig /all

What does it return with? Check the event logs. Check Device Manager for

errors/stop codes.

Re: NIC wont respond after reboot until disable/re-enable

Not responding = no ping response / connect..... (not a firewall issue as

disabling/re-enabling the card and you will get responses)

ipconfig /all shows all correct settings.

The private card works just fine. The public card does not until

disable/reenable.

Nothing in Event Viewer / Device Manager.

Re: NIC wont respond after reboot until disable/re-enable

"By default, the DNS Server service listens for DNS message communications

on all configured IP addresses for the server computer."

I don't believe this has anything to do with the fact that there are 2 NICs

in the server as we have thousands of servers set up with these

configurations working just fine..

I'm pretty convinced this is a hardware issue.. though thank you for your

posts.

I thought you replaced the hardware.

Re: NIC wont respond after reboot until disable/re-enable

Correct we replaced the NIC, which leads me to believe it is a Motherboard

issue

If it runs flawlessly otherwise after a disable/enable, i can't

imagine its a hardware issue ..

you say you replaced the NIC, but did you replace it with the same

brand/model? or different?

Dodgy port on the switch? Flaky Ethernet cable?
