Hi there I need advice on something I recently removed something from my PC that I now regret doing. I have removed the High Definition Audio Driver Package KB888111 and as a result cannot get video play back etc and access to other things via the web or my desktop. What I need is a way of getting things back up and running I still have access to the internet but seem unable to download anything and keep being asked to customize my internet settings when I go onto internet explorer any advice would be great.

thanks

Hi Bowdy and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.

Have a look here-

Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio class driver version 1.0a available for Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows 2000

for that KB888111, it is the hotfix at the top of the page, and you will have to log in or sign up to get it.

Also have a look at this Microsoft forum replies to help you through the install if you need it.

Realtek HD Audio device : Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) : Windows XP IT Pro : Microsoft TechNet Forums

It sounds to me like you uninstalled the Chipset drivers as opposed to the audio drivers,

Some if not most chipset drivers control the audio, ethernet and more.

Can you clarify it was only the audio drivers?

what happened was i was having trouble deleting a certain file and looked on add or remove and saw the "high definition audio driver package KB888111" because i didnt recognize it i opted to remove it even though it did warn it would effect a number of programmes on my computer. And now everything is messed up it described itself as KB888111WXPSP2 when i chose the option of removing it. I attempted system restore but i seems once its removed it cannot be retrived i havent opted to removed or change anything else im starting to feel like i cant get things fixed :(

DO you have access to another computer from which you could download the drivers and save them to a disk and install them to your pc from the disk?

Intel Pentium Dual Core 2.6 GHz

6GB RAM

500 GB HDD

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 with 128MB dedicated memory

You could try a System Restore to fix the download problem.

The HD Audio driver problem is due to Service Pack 3.

There's alot of internet discussion about this problem, and there are some registry fixes for it, but they are perhaps a last resort.

If you can, uninstall SP3.

Then uninstall the HD Audio drivers.

Reinstall all the UAA driver, which if you look at the Microsoft download says specifically Service Pack 2.

Then install the HD Audio drivers again.

If you have got this far, reinstall SP3.

i try removing SP3 and it says Bosnian is selected as the language for standards and formats or for non-Unicode programs. This langage is not supported prior to windows XP service pack 3. Please see readmesp.htm to select different language.

If we look at the list of problems...

1) HD Audio drivers

2) Internet Explorer downloads

3) SP3 and Bosnian language???

They all seem unconnected and looking at how things are going I'd be tempted to take it to a repair shop to have the hardware checked out, data backed up if needed and have Windows reinstalled and updated.
