Hi Matabhaine

From what you say it sounds like you using XP on both your computers!

but because their are slight differences between XP and Vista could you please tell us what operating system you are using so as to avoid any confusion?

Thanks

What I would like to do is clear up exactly what is is that you want to do that you cannot do. If I understand you correctly, all you want to do is be able to connect to the internet from both computers using the same router. Is that Correct?

Or, are you trying to network these two machines?

If the upstairs PC can be seen in the network from the downstairs PC then the local network settings must be correct, ie your upstairs PC has an IP address and subnet mask.

Perhaps the DNS and/or Default Gateway are not correct.

On the upstairs PC, make sure all the network settings are set to Automatic - that includes DNS and Default Gateway.

Can you click Start>Run and type cmd, then press enter.

A black box will appear, type ipconfig /all, then press enter.

Lots of information will be listed. You are looking for the info for the Local Area Adapter.

Look for the IP Address, then the DNS Servers and Default Gateway - post back that information.
