I've found CDRWin fine for copying cds and creating bin-cue files and I really like you can specify it to retry read errors for those bad cds but even then I use Nero to burn a cd with the bin-cue files CDRWin created. There is no CD+ and CD- format, it's all CD-R or CD-RW (that's a hyphen not a minus sign). DVD's comes as DVD+R (& +RW) and DVD-R (& RW, that's a minus sign). DVD drives vary in which format they can read although newer drives tend to read (and burn) both. Home theatre stand alone players vary greatly in what they'll deal with; not only in format they'll read but also what they'll do with what they find on the disk, e.g. play mp3's, wma's, display jpgs, etc. etc. The "W" for both CD and DVD means disk can be erased and reused, it's re-writable. You want to create what's called "Mixed Mode" cds, e.g. plays like a music cd in a music cd player but a pc sees it as a data cd with some "extra stuff" on it which BTW will not normally be accessable on the pc (the audio cd tracks). Yes, you can create the cd "manually" but me thinks using Nero or similar that does all the nitty gritty for you is better way to go. > 2) If CD-R(W) is better for audio recording and CD+R(W) is better for > computer data, which one is better for audio and data on one CD disk? > > With many, many thanks in advance > > > >

Yes, you are right. As a novice, I erroneously generalized from the DVDs to the CDs. Thank you very much for correcting my mistake.

With so much confusion in the terminology it is important to set the concepts straight. The following is a quotation from the E-mail which I received from Nero's support representative: "CDExtra is a disc with Audio and Data. The audio will be burnt at the start of the disc and the data behind the audio. It is possible to play it on a CD-Player. "MixedMode-CD is a disc with Data and Audio. It is inverted. The data first the audio behind the data. It is impossible to play it on a cd- player." I do not know whether this terminology is general of specific to Nero. [... snip ...]

Just use a CD-RW for testing, e.g. create disk using one format and try it. If it don't work, erase disk and try using the other format.

O.K., I did not buy any software as yet, and I did not make my mind, as yet, which software to buy. I am in no rush, and I am exploring alternatives. So far only Nero claims to facilitate what I want to do. You are not sure whether or not Golden Hawk provides these facilities. You already have their software. Why don't you try to do it, then tell me whether or not it works, and if it does, how well it does the job, and how easy or not so easy it is to get the job done. Since pjp believes that it does but not in a very straightforward manner, you might be able to shed more light on this situation. Another concern I have about Golden Hawk is their limit of 18 months on the licence. What happens when these 18 months expire? Does their software stop working if I do not renew the license on time? I value your opinion, but with such a strong statement I would value it even more if you would back up your word with evidence regarding the ability of Golden Hawk to do what I want it to do. I am glad to see that pjp already volunteered to do the test. It would be very interesting to compare your conclusions to those of pjp.
