VPN's and shared folders

Hi Folks,

I'm stumped, I've got an odd problem that just showed up.

I run SBS 2003 and we have it sitting in behind a Nortel Router and it works

fine.

I have a VPN setup so people can login and get to their files on the shared

folders

from home.

For some reason this no longer works, if I take a new XP Pro box, set it up

and put

it on it's own subnet and create the same old VPN connection, it WILL

connect just

fine as far as I can see but I can't see any of the shared folders on the

network.

All of my old connections on other systems can connect and see my shared

folders

just fine as usual, but if I try to add a new PC on now it does not work.

I'm stumped, if I pull the PC back in inside the network and it's gets its

address via

DHCP of course it can then see the local machines and also the servers. If

I then click on the server in windows explorer and try to get to a share it

prompts me as usual for a login and password. ….. A browse issue?

Any help is appericated!!

Cheers'

Dave

I strongly suggest you post all SBS questions in

microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs. SBS does things its own way.

That said, you will also want to mention what "see" means - if you're trying

to browse a remote network, you need to specify your WINS server IP in your

client. Since SBS does nearly everything with wizards, you'll get the best

help in the SBS group. Note also that browsing across subnets is not always

going to work well even with WINS (or LMHOSTS). I'd use a login script/batch

file for the remote VPN users instead.

Yep - I notice that you didn't rewrite it to include info I'd brought up (re

browsing, etc), tho.

Cool beans. Just might save someone else some work if you include all that

info. :)
