I don't know what CDs you mean. Dell would not supply any disks to connect to the internet. Any such installation CD would have been supplied by your ISP.

I assume that if you formatted and reinstalled XP you did so with the Dell disk that came with the pc or from a recovery partition. Other than perhaps some driver software or other bundle offered by Dell that would be the extent of their software.

I still have to go back to my initial comments. It may be that you need drivers and Wolfeymole has certainly directed you to the right place. But, you do not complain about any problem except the internet issue so I am not sure what you expect to accomplish with disks or drivers from Dell.

Are there other issues? How do you connect to the internet? Is the "hub" you refer to a router or something like a BT hub supplied by the ISP?

Hi, we did the XP install not from the Dell XP / recovery CD as that is lost along with the instruction booklet, but from a original XP CD,

Gav it seems there are 2 issues, what drivers are you using in general and what is causing your inability to get internet access.

They may be related since your drivers may just be the generic ones that are part of XP.

Please go to your device manager (Right click on "My Computer"> Select "manage" and then device manager. Expand everything (click on the + mark in the small box) and tell us if there a are any warnings posted (?s or !s etc.) Pay particular attention to network adapters. Let us know what you find.

Since you don't have the originall Dell disks and used a different set of disks I have to ask which disks did you use and where did you get them?

Are you aware that you can contact Dell to try and get the originall Dell XP disks for your computer for a nominal fee?

The same is true for any driver disks if you can not download them.
