Guest mc123 Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 Hi, I am working with WSUS, and from what I understand a group of computers that are linked to a WSUS server must either download from MS or from WSUS. I am trying to figure the best way when I have two group of computers and I want one group to download updates from WSUS while another download from MS. Will I need two seperate WSUS server to accomplish this? If so does this have to be two physical boxes? Thanks.

Think you are talking about WSUS3 and you are using the wuau.adm for configuration? Normally you are using WSUS to have control over the updates and test them before deploying or maybe have a separated network, which has no internet connection. If you like to have some clients using MS just configure the Automatic update for them. Guest mc123 Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 Re: WSUS configuration Sorry for the confusion, I want to approve and monitor all clients in WSUS, but I have some remote clients I don't want to be pulling updates from central WSUS server. So the clients in my local site are currently using WSUS, but I also want my remote clients to use WSUS but not download updates from WSUS server, but rather MS, but again to get approvals from WSUS. So since that options is set globally in WSUS I am thinking I will need two WSUS Servers where one is set to have clients download updates from MS and only approvals from WSUS. Note that all clients are directed to WSUS in AD policies. Trying to find the best solution. Guest Meinolf Weber Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 Re: WSUS configuration Hello mc123, I am not sure but i think you can not control it and let the client still go to MS to download. Better post this in microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.dts-l.org/goodpost.htm > Sorry for the confusion, > > I want to approve and monitor all clients in WSUS, but I have some > remote clients I don't want to be pulling updates from central WSUS > server. > > So the clients in my local site are currently using WSUS, but I also > want my remote clients to use WSUS but not download updates from WSUS > server, but rather MS, but again to get approvals from WSUS. > > So since that options is set globally in WSUS I am thinking I will > need two WSUS Servers where one is set to have clients download > updates from MS and only approvals from WSUS. > > Note that all clients are directed to WSUS in AD policies. > > Trying to find the best solution. > > "Meinolf Weber" wrote: > >> Hello mc123, >> >> If you have configured the clients to download from WSUS, they only >> will use WSUS.
