Guest rsshnry Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Is is possible to install and run Win 98 on a system based on an Intel 945 motherboard and core 2 duo CPU?

I'm fairly sure the answer to that is no. The last intel chipset to have anything resembling full win-98 support was the 875. There is evidence that some 915 chipsets might or should have win-98 support, possibly also 925. If you already have a 945 board, and really really want to get win-98 running on it, I suggest you post a question on the msfn.org site - someone might know of modified drivers. If you are simply looking for a core-2/duo motherboard that is capable of running win-98, look at the Via-based Asrock Dual-VSTA and 4-core VSTA boards. Beyond chipset issues, you'll also have issues with PCI-e video cards, and support for HD audio for win-98.

Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Re: Install Win 98 on new Intel mainboard According to Intel's compatibility chart, there isn't a 945 series board that is compatible with 98. It shows one 875 board and other series before that as 98 compatable. http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-008326.htm -- Brian A. The OP would need to have one of the few 945 series boards that accepts a Core2 Duo processor, not all 945 boards accept one. Win98/SE is a whole different ballgame which would take a lot of work to get up and running properly even with a different type processor. > > If you are simply looking for a core-2/duo motherboard that is capable > of running win-98, look at the Via-based Asrock Dual-VSTA and 4-core > VSTA boards. > > Beyond chipset issues, you'll also have issues with PCI-e video cards, > and support for HD audio for win-98. -- Brian A. Besides all things already said about this question, W9X will use only 1 core of dual core processor.
