MSCONFIG Question.

Hey Dougie,

 

Try these steps:

 

1 - Right click on the “Start” button

2 - Click on Properties

3 - Click “Customise”

4 - Click on the “Advanced” tab

5 - Ensure “Enable Dragging and Dropping” is selected

6 - Press OK, and apply changes.

 

It should now work, if not, try reboot and check it again.

 

And when you say "A quick flash" was that when you right clicked on the icon? did the context menu appear at all? [the right click menu]

That fixed it.Something had unchecked the Drag and Drop Box.

All working great now.

One nasty program,Uniblue,if you try and uninstall.

In answer to your 2nd Question,no menue appeared with the quick flash.

If you right click on it now, after solving the problem, does a menu appear?

 

or still not?

 

As one should appear if I am correct in believing you mean the icon for Outlook Express in the start menu?

Hi Dirty Polo.

Right Click now, on Outlook Express in Start Menu,it says, 1 Read Email

2 Internet Properties 3 Remove from this list.

 

In all Programs now,when I right Click on Outlook Express,it shows the full Menu.Dragging has returned to normal.

Sorry Guys,I just found another problem.You must be sick of me by now.

When I insert a Blank CD,the Windows selection Box doesn't appear.

Is there an easy fix,I wonder.Thanks.

Hey dougie, what do you mean by the Windows Selection box?

 

Do you mean the quick run box that appears? giving a list of things to do with the CD?

Yes mate.What I have just done is went into device manager,and the burner has a yellow exclamation.I clicked uninstall and restarted PC.Still showing same. I then run Hardware Wizard and it said Driver is up to date. Burner not showing under "My Computer" I tried to Google a fix,and only got confused.

I have install disc but not sure if I have to uninstall everything first, or simply put the install Disc in,and install over the top.Or some other Solution.Was working fine,last time I used it.I have gone as far as I can,without assistance.

Okay, look in Add and Remove programs for anything related to the drive that came on the installation disc, remove it and reboot.

Then stick the installation disc in and reinstall the drivers and such and let us know how you get on.

 

If no luck, let us know the make and model of the drive.

Thanks for that.4AM but will do .About 5 Programs come with the disc, incl Nero,but will have to put disc in to see which ones are on the disc.Cant remember.Get back as soon as I can,and really appreciate your help.

I put the install disc in and waited 3mins and nothing appears on screen.Thanks.

Okay, open My Computer and check in there, you can double click the drive to ruun it, or right click, and select Explore, to view the files on the disc.

I dont know whether this helps,but I uninstalled again from Device Manager and rebooted. A popup said "Found new Hardware for CD Rom"Still nothing in my Computer.Thanks.

Eventually found the problem and fixed it.Registry problem.

My reasoning, was to keep all these issues together,without having them scattered all around the Forums.

There is no need to defend your intentions Dougie, they are always good.

 

One of our jobs is to create forums that others can read and get insight into problems they are facing. You presented a newish twist on some cd drive issues in post no. 31 and they deserved a thread of their own. A member with the same or similar problem will never find it hidden in an msconfig thread. That being said, I really am glad you are back on track.:)

Thanks mate.Just for those Members that have a similar problem,it turned out to be the dreaded Error 39. Hope I don't have to go into the Registry again,till I learn more.
